Medical directors get new smartphone tool to better track tasks, compliance efforts

September 14, 2023

A software platform designed to streamline workflows and communication for healthcare administrators is being picked up for medical directors of one of the major senior care providers in the Midwest.

American Senior Communities, which operates more than 100 senior care facilities throughout Indiana, is partnering with CAREASCEND and adopting its tools for its medical directors, the companies announced this week.

CAREASCEND’s platform works off of a smartphone and will track tasks the medical directors perform, and address compliance issues.

“We are committed to incorporating new technology and innovative programs throughout our company, especially when it can enhance the care of the residents we are so honored to serve,” ASC CEO Steve Van Camp said in a statement. He called equipping the company’s physician leaders with the cutting edge technology “an exciting step.”

The CAREASCEND platform is also aimed at fostering more collaboration between administrative leadership, a spokesman stated. The company has been working with a number of senior living providers, including skilled nursing facility company Signature HealthCARE. The two firms were honored last year for their work expediting medical evaluation processes.

CAREASCEND’s resources are also designed to help fulfill some new financial reporting requirements mandated by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and was created with help from the Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine.

The potential for tools like artificial intelligence to help with rote, administrative tasks, and potentially ease the paperwork burden for healthcare professionals, has been the subject of a lot of recent innovation.
